Portola Writers Retreat

One of our favorite urban gardens is located in San Francisco's Portola neighborhood.

Our clients desired a space for gardening and writing with a modern, clean aesthetic and a varied, edible plantscape.

Anchoring the space, an existing apple tree becomes the symbolic heart of the garden. Flowing around the tree, the strong geometry of the paths and patio areas wield a dynamic tension with mixed theme, laid-back planting zones.

Features include a writing/guest cabana, spa, vegetable beds, dining and lounge areas, an unusual Floss Silk tree, and hidden clotheslines in a dining patio screen.
